  • Overview:

    The South End Technology Center @ Tent City facilitates the use of technology in ways that encourage people to become innovators and producers, to tell their own stories, and to learn ways of creating just and humane communities.We serve as an education laboratory, developing innovative new tools and approaches for the creative uses of technology to bring out the best in people and their relationships with each other. Our particular aim is to reach community members who are still largely excluded or underserved.Our digital design and fabrication laboratory is equipped with lasercutters, 3D printers, milling machine, vinylcutter, digital embroidery machine and a large library of microcontrollers and electronics.We also have a professional quality audio and video studio.The mission of our youth programming is to create a critical mass of Boston youth creatively engaged in STEAM who catalyze cultural change in their communities about what is possible to do and achieve with technology and engineering.We want youth to be able to express themselves and create artistically and practically with technology!

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    Electronic Explorer/Fab Steward: DUTY 1: BE A LEARNER AND CREATOR:Learn to be creative with technology through making things with digital design and fabrication, electronics, coding and art. DUTY 2: SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY.Be an ambassador for creative technology and teacher in the community by collaborating with pop-up shops, workshops and serving as a Fab Lab Steward during our open access Fab Lab Inventor's Lounge on Thursday nights. DUTY 3: PARTICIPATE & MAKE POSITIVE CONTRIBUTIONS TO LEARNING COMMUNITY.Participate in shaping what and how we learn at through contributing ideas and feedback in a postiive way that make SETC work for everyone. DUTY 4: SAFETY AND DAILY MAINTENANCE:Keep yourself and others safe with technology tools and help maintain our makerspace and lab so we can serve our community.
