The Pathway Initiative Inc

**This position will be: Hybrid: In-Person and Remote**

The Pathway Initiative Inc, is a Boston based medical education non-profit organization with the mission to widen access to careers in medicine for talented and motivated, but disadvantaged Black and Brown students with the goal to address clinician shortage in underserved communities and alleviate health care disparity.  

We provide longitudinal career mentoring support to students from High School 9thgrade through premedical and medical school. This includes Free STEM content support,  study skills and a range of critical soft skills during the school year. In addition, we provide paid internships, leadership training, and financial literacy workshops in the summer.  

Career development in medicine, health and life science required sustained hands-on experience which help with the following:

1. Discovering passion and capabilities for careers in health sciences, biotechnology, invention, and innovation.
2.  Helping students focus on acquiring the right experiences needed for STEM careers. 
3. Building student confidence and critical thinking skills in a way that aligns with problem-finding and problem-solving in STEM careers.
4. Hands-on experience helps expand students' understanding of STEM course content and their practical application in the work environment.

Job 1: Clinical Experience Key Duties and Responsibilities for :

1. Assisting with administrative duties in a clinical environment 
2. Assisting with transporting of equipment and delivering of food to patients and families
3. Providing information to patients and visitors
4. Assisting as a technician in clinical pathology lab
5. Opportunity to shadow physicians in different specialties and observe clinical procedures and experience in clinical reasoning
6. Gain training in financial literacy, leadership, and socio-emotional wellbeing
7. Write a short report on your experience

Job 2: Research Experience Key Duties and Responsibilities for :

1. Learn the use of scientific equipment under supervision
2. Work one-on-one with a PhD mentor on neurobiology, cancer, GI tract, photomedicine and other interesting research projects.
3. Learn how to collect, compile, and analyze data
4. Perform range of job-related duties as assigned
5. Gain training in financial literacy, leadership, and socio-emotional wellbeing
6. Write a short report on your experience

The Ideal Candidate for this Job:

1. High School or recent graduate of High School
2. Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino, or of Spanish origin
3. Commit to full attendance and participation
4. Strong academic background in STEM and good time management 
5. Ability to work with people from different professional and education background 
6. Ability to work well independently and with others
