Overview:

The Mattahunt community center is a vibrant neighborhood that consist of diverse cultures. In the early 1600s, Mattapan started as community for Native Americans known as the Mattahunt Tribe. At the dawn of 21st century, immigrants traveling in New England found Mattapan to be a "good place to sit." Irish, Jewish, and Haitian immigrants called the neighborhood home. Now, Mattapan is home to a large African American and Caribbean community. Mattapan residents care deeply about their community and are willing  to work to ensure a high quality of life for its youth and families. Mattapan has a large population of youth representing 22 percent of Mattapan's total population. The Mattahunt Community Center in Mattapan is on track to re-open after an extensive renovation project. The Mattahunt community center offers dynamic programming to engage the community, residents and after school partnerships. With a newly renovated lobby, gymnasium, community room, and youth space the Mattahunt is looking forward to introducing new and non-traditional programs to an under-served community. Our organization fully understands the importance of providing high quality, outcome driven programs that are responsive to neighborhood needs and interests. The Mattahunt is committed to building a community friendly environment where youth have the resources they need to thrive and will offer numerous year-round opportunities that are critical for self expression and development. Many of the programs offered at the Mattahunt will be available across the age spectrum year-round. Designing our programming in alignment with our ACES Framework (Arts, Community & Civic Engagement, Education and Sports, Recreation & Fitness) to ensure consistency and quality across our network. Our site, the BCYF Mattahunt Community Center, will offer a variety of social, educational and recreational programs and activities, including after school enrichment programs, youth mentorship and leadership programs, creative writing, entrepreneurship skills, college and career readiness programs, youth music programs, dance, theater, arts & crafts programs, basketball and sports clinics and leagues, swimming lessons and youth swim.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Office of Youth Employment and Opportunity employs, develops, and engages Boston's youth. We do this by amplifying youth voice and bridging opportunities for personal and professional growth. We envision a future where youth are educated, equipped, and empowered to transition successfully into adulthood. Our organization fully understands the importance of employment programs for young people, especially urban youth who come from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. By partnering with the Successlink Employment Program, we strive to teach young people valuable life skills such as responsibility, punctuality, following directions, getting along with others, establishing a good work ethic, and managing money. We hope that by fostering a professional, supportive and empowering environment, we will be able to inspire the youth to strive for excellence in whatever field they pursue. BCYF Mattahunt offers affordable programs and activities for residents of all ages across the City. Our goal is to provide quality programs that enrich the lives of residents and meet the needs of the community. The Ideal Candidate for this Job:

The ideal Program Assistant should be mature, responsible, dependable and enjoy working with youth.
Able to work cooperatively with younger youth and adults.
Have effective communication skills. Have a positive attitude. Willingness to learn.
