Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for Boston's residents by partnering with various organizations to offer a wide range of comprehensive programs and activities tailored to neighborhood needs and interests.
Participants have the opportunity to balance academic tasks with daily fitness and recreational activities, teaching them healthy physical skills and providing nutritional information, along with daily snacks. Daily and weekly scheduled activities include gym games, swim instruction, roller skating, as well as dance, music, art, and seasonal, intramural, and competitive sports. 100% of our participants engage in fitness activities. We offer activities 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.
There are at least 3 opportunities per week for students to participate in activities with our athletic department. These activities may include, but are not limited to, roller skating, cooperative games, skill-building activities, and skills development. Currently, about 100% of all children participate in fitness activities at least twice per week.
BCYF Mildred Ave Community Center has expanded its offerings, including a soccer program, yoga, graphic/t-shirt design, coding, and illustration. We also introduced Skills and Drills, a basketball fundamentals program where kids learn the rules of the game and then get the chance to play. Additionally, we offer boxing/cardio conditioning with basic instruction for kids who don't participate in traditional sports, giving them a fun way to stay active. Our youth football clinics are non-contact and focus on conditioning and basic understanding of the sport.
We are an ongoing participant in the SuccessLink Summer and School Year Programs. Each summer, we hire approximately 22-30 youth, and during the school year, about 10-12 youth, to support us in athletics, aquatics, the teen center, office/administrative duties, computer support, and maintenance.
We also have a robust Senior Program that averages 50-60 participants (ages 55-102) every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm. This program includes breakfast, lunch, and a variety of activities such as fitness, yoga, walking, jewelry making, board games, and computer classes.
