The Document Imaging Service Center (DISC) was developed by the Boston Public Schools STRIVE Program. DISC provides relevant and meaningful paid and unpaid internships to Boston Public high school students with significant disabilities, and at-risk youth, and has done so for the past 15 years. All DISC interns participate in real-world work and these opportunities are offered year-round. In great part, the continued success of DISC internships is due to the strong partnership that exists between STRIVE/DISC and the City of Boston's Division of Youth Engagement & Employment. DISC is a stand-alone component of the Boston Public Schools STRIVE Program and it is supervised by Donna Hannon, who has participated in City of Boston youth program funding since 1994. It's been a wonderful longstanding partnership that has yielded successful outcomes for students from the disabilities community, who would not have had such experience otherwise.

OPAT has been around since 2020. Since our beginning, we have served anyone who has a complaint against Boston Police a majority of which have been BIPOC constituents. Our year-round opportunities include the OPAT commission community meeting which takes place quarterly and allows Boston community members to come and speak about changes they would like to see in their communities or problems they have with public safety and police officers. We offer three internship positions, two college and one high school position. We also have a Youth Advisory Council that runs BI-Monthly where youth between the ages of 14-19 can be a forum where youth from around Boston can talk and advocate for police reform. Our overall objective is to give youth a space to be heard where they can discuss issues in our communities. We strive to build positive connections to eliminate the disconnect between youth and the police.

For over 30 years, the Boston Police department has been a committed leader in Community Policing initiatives. Through the core concepts of partnership, prevention and problem-solving, BPD has succeeded in both a lower crime rate and a lower arrest rate in the city. Community policing starts with positive interactions on the streets and in school classrooms. It includes proactive prevention, and diversion for at risk youth and families, and also provides pathways away from violence for those who are ready to make a change. BPD is working every day with our communities to strengthen and build up relationships. Prioritizing relationships with youth and the community is the key to solidifying trust in our neighborhoods.

The Condon Community Center has been in operation for over 40 years. During that time, it has evolved and expanded to service a wider population with a richly diverse field of programming opportunities. Our facility offers programs that service children as young as 3, stress inclusion for those with disabilities, focus on the teen population, attract new-comers to our sports and aquatics programs, and offer a center for senior citizen activities. We operate under the umbrella of BCYF, Boston Centers for Youth and Families. We build upon the message of incorporating multiple disciplines to foster well-rounded individuals. Using education and sports to build character is a central theme lived out daily at the Condon Community Center. Physically, our building directly abuts the "D" Street public housing complex. This factor directly impacts the fact that we can boast about being one of the most diversified centers in the city; serving a wealth of ethnicities. The most recent statistics, provided by Boston Public Housing Authority, identify 480 -500 low-income families living in direct proximity to our center. Our center is comprised of a full-court gym, computer lab, regulation swimming pool, multi purpose meeting space, and a recently renovated teen space. The Condon Elementary School, with the addition of an 8th grade, has completed their full transformation to a K-8 school. Also, we are physically "sandwiched" between two other long-existing non-profits: the Laboure Center and the West Broadway Task Force; allowing for the mutually beneficial sharing of community resources. Year-round programming at the Condon Community Center includes, but is not limited to: aquatics programming including swim lessons, aerobics, adult lap swim, and family swim times; Athletic programming including basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, pickleball league, etc; Youth/Teen programming including SuperTeens, Girls Leadership, Career Prep & Building Workshops, ASPIRE After School Program, Tutoring, Mentoring, SAT Prep classes, field trips, Feeding Program, Special Events and celebrations; Technology programming including computer instruction, intro. to music technology, resume writing, etc; Senior programming including crocheting, bingo, resource fairs, coffee clutch, Silver Sneakers Walking Club, tech help and feeding assistance.

In the early 1970s, as new school buildings sprang up across Boston, residents felt strongly that these buildings should be used as community resources beyond the school day. This community schools movement led to the establishment of Boston Community Schools in 1972. Over time additional programs and services grew, and additional facilities were added. In 2001 the department was transformed into Boston Centers for Youth & Families, and today we are the City of Boston's largest youth and human services agency. BCYF currently operates 34 community centers and pools. We are committed to serving residents of all ages, from preschoolers to "seasoned" adults, with a variety of arts, education, sports & recreation, health, and other programs to meet their needs and interests. With regard to youth and teens, year round programs and services include workforce development and support, positive youth development, mentoring, sports, enrichment, recreation, violence prevention, entrepreneurship, field trips, and a variety of workshops to support healthy development and life skills. Our teen room is open daily for middle and high school teens to hang out, have fun, play video and board games, do crafts, and make friends.
