As a major urban area fusion center, the mission of the Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) is to reduce crime and prevent acts of terrorism throughout the Metropolitan Boston Homeland Security Region by serving as the central point for the collection, synthesis, analysis, and dissemination of strategic and tactical intelligence information to law enforcement, and, as appropriate, other first responders and the private sector. The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the BRIC, its structure, and intelligence production. The Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) was established in 2005 to coordinate efforts of the nine communities in the Metro Boston Homeland Security Region (MBHSR) or the Boston Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) in their work to reduce crime and prevent terrorism. Since its inception the BRIC, managed and operated by the Boston Police Department, has become a hub for public and private stakeholders in and around Boston for the collection and analysis of intelligence information. The BRIC disseminates actionable intelligence to local law enforcement agencies, other first responders, and the private sector throughout these participating municipalities in real time with the goal of reducing criminal activity and preventing terrorism. The BRIC has co-located its analytical and investigative staff in a shared workspace at the Boston Police Department (BPD) Headquarters. The BRIC strives to have its key functional requirements met, including collection/data management, processing and collation of information, analysis, production, and dissemination. The BRIC leadership has staffed BRIC operations with experienced, high-quality, professional personnel to support its mission. The BRIC staff includes sworn officers and civilian employees, as well as professional contractors who provide supplemental expertise. Moreover, on an as-needed basis, the BRIC uses subject-matter experts to serve as consultants in appropriate fields (e.g., critical infrastructure) in the MBHSR. In order to accomplish its mission, the BRIC has four complimentary components that provide a comprehensive approach to data fusion, intelligence analysis and production, and information sharing: Crime and Intelligence Analysis, Homeland Security, the Real-Time Crime Center, and Technical Services.

Our History In the early 1970’s, as new school buildings were built in Boston, residents felt strongly that these buildings should be used as community resources and offer community programming when school was not in session. This idea led to the establishment of Boston Community Schools in 1972. Overtime we added additional services, programs, and facilities and in 2001, our name was changed to Boston Centers for Youth & Families, and today we are the City of Boston’s largest youth and human services agency. · Serves over 60,000 Boston residents annually · Offers adult education classes and testing for over 1,600 adults each year · Provides structured out-of-school time programming for more than 1,500 children and youth each day, and over 18,000 each year.. · Offers sports and recreation programming for thousands of children and youth. · Engages over 5,000 children in BCYF summer programs .

Assessing has participated in the Intern program both the Fall and Summer for at least the last 10 years. We normally have 1-3 interns participate with us during the year either fall or summer. It takes a lot to train the interns and to learn everything that Assessing does and have them complete the work that is needed to be done in the department. So a lot goes in to mentoring these interns. We would like to discuss being able to carry over our staff from fall to summer or vice versa.
